Stupid Criminals

This is hysterical. We have been in transition to our new office. We have had movers in and out for a couple days and at some point on Friday my boss, Barry, had his brand new laptop stolen right out of his office. This morning a police report was made and the insurance company was called. Barry also called CDO (Computer Direct Outlet) who custom built his laptop to have them start building another one for him.

Shortly after 4:00 this afternoon, CDO called Barry to let him know that his laptop was in their possession. You ask, "how did the laptop get there?"
Here's the funny part. The thief took the laptop only... he was not bright enough to get the power supply. So being the brilliant thief that he was said to himself, "Well the sticker on the computer says 'custom built by CDO', hey, that's here in Greenville... I bet they could help me get a new power supply." Sure enough he brought the laptop into CDO this afternoon asking for a power supply. CDO took the laptop plugged it in and what appears on the boot screen... PROPERTY OF W. BARRY AGNEW. CDO says to the guy, " It's going to be just a few minutes, we have to run a few tests to make sure this power supply will work properly. You can have a seat and we'll be with you in just a few minutes." CDO called Barry, then called the police. The thief was picked up shortly afterwards... Patiently waiting.

Looks like he's going to be spending the evening with Bubba tonight. Hope it was worth it.

**UPDATE**

As the story goes, they guy who stole the laptop brought it in for a power supply. He would have gotten away with it if he would have just bought the hardware. But to add dumber to dumb... the guy demanded that the computers warranty should cover a new hardware. Basically giving CDO the opportunity to pull up all the purchase information on the computer. How dumb do you have to be? First of all, stealing a laptop out of an office you have signed a contract with to do work... and then get SO greedy that you demand new hardware to be covered under warranty! ...and to top things off, he tried to blame it on the other guy he was working with. Saying, "He stole it!! I just bought it from him."
